Tilda Swinton in a Marvel movie: HOW DID THEY MANAGE TO FUCK THIS UP?

hellotailor:

MARVEL: Tilda Swinton is in talks to play an ancient sorcerer in the Doctor Strange movie!

ME: OMFG THIS IS ALL I WANT, THANK YOU. Can’t wait to find out more about this great character!!

MARVEL: “The Ancient One is a Tibetan mystic…”

ME: … why you gotta be this way, Hollywood.

Once news broke that The Weinstein Company had acquired international rights to Bong Joon-ho’s hotly anticipated Snowpiercer, it was perhaps inevitable that the film wouldn’t make it to Western screens unscathed. It has now been revealed that Harvey Weinstein has ordered the revered Korean cineaste to cut a whopping 20 minutes from his film before it will see the light of day in North America, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand or the UK.

Ugh. 🙁 20 minutes is a lot of cutting. I guess I’ll probably skip out on seeing it in the cinema and see what version ends up on DVD.

I am really interested in silence. In inarticulacy also, which isn’t the same as silence. As a performer I like looking at the gaps between what people want to communicate and what they can communicate. I love good filmmaking that isn’t just about really proficient writers of dialogue, who think that everybody’s really articulate and everybody can hear each other really well. That doesn’t feel true to me, actually. I mean, that’s a fantastical universe.
