You know, I really love that Pacific Rim broke the trope of “guy has to be convinced that The Woman is his equal before accepting her as his equal.” Instead it was “guy is convinced from the start that The Woman is his equal, appoints himself as her personal hype man, and spends the rest of the movie demanding that everybody put some respect on her name or else”
This might be one of my favourite scenes of anything ever cause it’s so blindly obvious how connected they are after the drift!!!! The way they carry this speech – it doesn’t sound at all like two separate people with separate thoughts, this is ONE thought, ONE message and it is bouncing between them speaking so effortlessly. It’s so different to how they talk together earlier on in the film – they don’t cut each other off or argue or talk over each other, the sentences flow between the both of them like they’re one person. It’s honestly amazing to hear two people sound so incredibly connected
One: don’t you ever touch me again. Two: don’t you ever touch me again. Now, you have no idea who the hell I am, or where I’ve come from, and I’m not about to tell you my whole life story. All I need to be to you and everybody on this dome is a fixed point. The last man standing. I do not need your sympathy or your admiration. All I need is your compliance and your fighting skills. And if I can’t get that, then you can go back to the wall that I found you crawling on. Do I make myself clear?
i think we don’t talk enough about the central unsaid idea of pacific rim- they pilot giant robots called jaegers. the final mission involves using these robots to deliver a massive nuclear explosive device to the breach.
a jaeger bomb. NO ONE ever says jaeger bomb. but that is what it is.
pacific rim be like, we’re gonna give you unparalleled tenderness between two warriors, each with a tragic past that has hardened them emotionally, and we’re gonna do it in the context of a movie about fighting giant space monsters with huge robots. fucking checks all my boxes thank you
