You like Tumblr bloggers? Their early work was a little too Superwholock for my taste. But when the porn ban came out in ‘18, I think they really came into their own, commercially and memetically. The whole era has a self-aware, indifferent attitude, and a new sheen of unabashedness that really gives the posts a big boost. They’ve been compared to Twitter, but I think Tumblr has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In ‘21, Tumblr released this; Breaking Bad, their most accomplished site-wide obsession. I think their undisputed masterpiece is “It’s Based To Be Cringe”. A mindset so catchy, most people probably don’t think about the meaning. But they should, because it’s not just about the pleasures of being yourself and the importance of expressing your interests. It’s also a personal statement about the site itself. HEY PAUL!
