The gender dynamics of horror typically play out with killers being male and their victims being female. Under The Skin turns the tables on this traditional setup, and with it creates a reverse of contemporary rape culture where violence against women is so common that women are casually warned to be ever alert for those who might harm them. In rape culture, the blame for what might befall women is thereby put on their shoulders in place of their potential rapist. By and large men don’t worry about their safety in the same way when walking home late at night. But in the world of Under The Skin, they absolutely should.

Scarlett Johansson puts Extra’s interviewer in his place after he asks: Were you able to wear undergarments [under your suit]?

Scarlett #1

Actresses are asked such INANE, bullshit, “sexy” questions by male interviewers, thank god she actually calls them out

I love how Jeremy is just cracking up the entire time.

His face in the first one.  It’s just so… “Oh god, you are in for it now.  I’m just gonna look at my hands while she tears you open.”

My love for Scarlett Johansson just went through the stratosphere.

There is nothing not awesome about this, because not only does she say things that should be said often and more loudly, but Renner’s reaction gives it another layer of win. ScarJo is sick of this shit, and Renner knows you’re really gonna get it now.

I’m in hardcore lesbians with you.

^^^^^^

All of the above, BUT ALSO right…

Undergarments that minimise VPL are a thing that are all over magazines and advertising aimed at women. They have been for a while now. It is a feat of engineering that has been conquered in the realm of ladies underwear.

It is, in fact, old news.

I AM MORE INTERESTED IN HOW JEREMY RENNER DEALS WITH VPL. His outfit was pretty skin-tight yeah? ALSO CHRIS EVANS. Like… the one issue of GQ that I’ve read? Has NOTHING about this. I assume other publications aimed at men are similar. I’ve not seen anything in shops that addresses this conundrum. Do they…just go without? Doesn’t that chafe with all the running and jumping and falling off buildings? Do they have specially engineered pants that utilise years of research into minimising VPL in the perfect LBD?

SO. Basically I saw this and it reminded me of something but I couldn’t quite put my finger on what and THEN I REALISED THIS IS BASICALLY REAL-LIFE SECRET AVENGERS #20.

Or at least, Black Widow chilling at her villa in the story.

…that was an awesome issue. I think I need to go read it again. I mean, it starts with Steve Rogers being killed and it has TIME TRAVEL.

Wait.

Is Black Widow really the 12th Doctor?
