 The Archbishop of York has come to the defence of youths who wear hoodies – and proved the point by donning one himself.

Former Bishop of Birmingham Dr John Sentamu, who became Britain’s first black archbishop last year, wore a red hoodie as he addressed a Bradford Diocese conference on youth work yesterday.

The Archbishop wore a hoodie given to him by teenagers in the Diocese of Birmingham.

He asked people not to judge those who wear hoodies, adding “99 per cent of those who wear hoodies are law-abiding citizens”.

Not only does Dr John Sentamu rock a hoodie, but he told a cracking story about how a headless chicken saved his life when the Anglican society of my university invited him to speak at one of their meetings.

IIRC his hoodie either says “Bish” or “Archbish” on the back.
