So, I used a bit of my freelance money, money I wasn’t counting on essentially, to sign up for the @neil-gaiman Masterclass. I really wanted to take it, to hone my craft that much more, and I am so delighted by what I’ve seen. Hearing him talk is fantastic, and he’s always been a huge favorite of mine. I’m going to “be a little too honest” and say that I honestly teared up hearing him speak about ocean at the end of the lane and Coraline. Those books meant so much to me. I would absolutely die if I met him and am totally not ashamed of how much I would fangirl. It would be one for the records. But the best part of the class so far has been that I feel like in some strange distant way, Neil’s cheering for me. He’s cheering on all the writers that take the class and who want to publish or just improve and that feels fucking incredible.

I really am.

And for those of you put off by the Masterclass cost, probably 50% of the posts on this Tumblr over the last 8 years are posts for writers. And my blog at Neilgaiman.com has millions of words on it, many of which are answers to writers as well. They are waiting for you, free.

wholesome burger chef excited about americans

My senior class trip went to France and we were in the south of France, in the little sea side town built onto a cliff that was sort of an artist’s conclave. It was so cool, it was so calm and as a creator I felt so welcomed by the folk there. A group of friends and I headed out for lunch after the tour and we found this kinda cheesy American themed diner so we went in and it was a throwback to Bob’s Big Boy you guys; right out of the 50’s. Anyway the staff was so excited to see a bunch of American girls come in. Most of them got something familiar but I got what the chef wanted to make me and guys it was the best damn burger of my life. It was juicy and messy with some kind of bacon and caramelized onion jam and I sweat to god the bread had been toasted in the duck fat. Everything was running down my arms as I went fucking feral on this thing. It was so good. I feel like not only did I manage to make my country proud that day, but also eat a burger that is one of highlights of the thousands of burgers (no joke, I love me a cheeseburger) I have eaten in my life.

@copperbadge I feel as though you would appreciate this

All I want is to travel to some beautiful remote location and eat a hamburger in order to delight the local populace.

I JUST WANT A GOOD HAMBURGER AND TO IMPLY THE APPROVAL OF THE AMERICAN EMPIRE

My Mum and I do something that is kind of the reverse of this. We travel all over the world and go for a meal at whatever local Chinese restaurant we can find.

Mostly, it is terrible. There were good Chinese restaurants in San Francisco (although we have family there, so they knew the best places) and Lisbon.

Somehow, we always manage to find the terrible Chinese restaurants with Malaysian chefs/owners.
